Fundación Natura

Fundación Natura's mission is to support conservation of biodiversity and search for alternatives for sustainable use of resources for improving the lifestyle of rural communities.

For two years, Fundación Natura has been working with rural communities reliant on forests as major sources of fuelwood, to decrease pressure on native stands and encouraging their conservation. Along the way, Fundación Natura has become aware that reducing fuelwood consumption must not be a "monolitic" measure so it's necessary to consider an holistic approach for achieving this target. For reducing indoor air pollution, Fundación Natura has started to design and prove a new model of cookstove. We hope to obtain results soon.

Our Experience And Interest In The Four PCIA Central Focus Areas

Social/Cultural barriers to using traditional fuels and stoves:

So far, Fundación Natura has focused on improved cooking technologies for reducing fuelwood consumption in rural areas of some villages of northeast Colombia. Further, Fundación Natura wants to disseminate improved cookstoves for achieving this target and ameliorate the quality of life of rural communities.

Market development for improved cooking technologies:

Fundación Natura doesn't have experience in such issues yet.

Technology standardization for cooking, heating and ventilation:

Fundacion Natura doesn't have experience in such issues yet.

Indoor air pollution exposure and health monitoring:

Fundación Natura wishes to keep working in the household energy sector with a special focus on rural areas for monitoring quality of air inside homes and its incidence in community health.
