Our Experience And Interest In The Four PCIA Central Focus Areas

Social/Cultural barriers to using traditional fuels and stoves:

Siddique Sanitation has experienced many social & cultural barriers while implementing projects. People are habituated to old cultural practices. Poverty and education are the main barriers. They are currently working to make the user more comfortable with new technologies.

Market development for improved cooking technologies:

Siddique Sanitation is making its position with improved cookstoves among beneficiaries, through awareness building programs, video projection, and village meetings giving the people real examples of the benefits. Our workers motivate people to take improved cookstoves and create demand among community people that wish to change their cooking habits. The stove is offered free of cost under the condition that they will return the fuels saved after using our stove.

Technology standardization for cooking, heating and ventilation:

Siddique Sanitation has been working with the vulnerable communities for about 16 years and and has developed its programs to best suit the socioeconomic condition of the rural people. Significant achievements have been made in this part of the country by a large number of improved cookstove installations. A concrete biomass cookstove that was developed has very good durability and efficiency.

Indoor air pollution exposure and health monitoring:

Indoor air pollution exposure levels and health monitoring for vulnerable groups, like children and women, is yet to be conducted. These areas are of interest to Siddique Sanitation as no significant study has been done in this area. The situation is alarming since the majority of Bangladesh's rural poorly constructed stoves use firewood and agricultural residue as primary energy sources.
