Mission

The Center for Sustainable Energy Technology (CSET) is a non-profit, non-political, and non-governmental development organization established for the purpose of conducting research and formulating programs in energy technology and its role in the socio-economic recovery of postwar Liberia. CSET is also involved in conducting workshops/seminars and public awareness programs for the spread of information and the use of renewable and appropriate energy technologies in both urban and rural areas of Liberia. CSET's mission is to promote sustainable energy supplies with appropriate technology for Liberia.

Primary Initiatives, Target Populations, and Scope of Work:

Liberia: Public Awareness and information dissemination on renewable, appropriate and sustainable energy technologies in both rural and urban Libeira. Working with Community Based Organizations (CBOs), including women's groups in solving their energy needs and associated problems.

Our Experience And Interest In The Four PCIA Central Focus Areas

Social/Cultural barriers to using traditional fuels and stoves:

Conservative behavior: rural people, mainly peasants tend to resist change.


Market development for improved cooking technologies:

Our organization is conducting research for appropriate action in this area.


Technology standardization for cooking, heating and ventilation:

We are working with local artisans to develop improved cookstoves for efficient use of fuelwood.


Indoor air pollution exposure and health monitoring:

We have just published our research report based on household energy assessment done in Rural and Urban Montserrado County.

We will be interested in information and knowledge exchange, including technology transfer, training and capacity development. Our institution is pretty new in a country emerging from war.
