Our Experience And Interest In The Four PCIA Central Focus Areas

Social/Cultural barriers to using traditional fuels and stoves:

India is a country where extensive use of bio mass exists for cooking.

Pratham's main thrust has been education. Some volunteers of Pratham have recently set up a group to work on rural employment as well as rural energy needs. The use of stoves is of particular interest to us from both perspectives of employment and energy.

Market development for improved cooking technologies:

Pratham has very vast reach in rural India through its educational initiative. We have recently started working to leverage this reach to distribute energy efficent lighting systems in the rural areas. These marketing efforts are in the pilot phase. Our philosphy of Marketing is to distribute products which enhance the quality of life of the villager and increase his cash flow.

Technology standardization for cooking, heating and ventilation:

We have no experience in this area.

Indoor air pollution exposure and health monitoring:

We have only recently become interested in this area, because in these products we see synergy with our rural employment initiatives and energy conservation.
