Eco Center ICNEER's main activities are in India but it networks with other NGOs and works with them very closely to achieve its aim. The major projects and success of Eco Center ICNEER has been two projects it started and supported with help of Austrian NGOs and school children to promote and provide SK 14 Solar Cookers to the needy poor. a) Through NGO Barli Institute for Women in Indore where more than 250 Sk 14 Parabolic Solar Cookers have been distributed and are being used by Tribal girls. b) Through NEDCAP, Chittor 4 Smoke-free villages projects have been undertaken and 100s of Sk 14 Solar Cookers have been supplied where the cookers are used not only for cooking but income generation too. To make them affordable the Cookers were subsidised and given in installments under micro-financing.
Our Experience And Interest In The Four PCIA Central Focus Areas
The biggest barrier for promotion of energy effecient stove and solar cookers and biogas has been the affordability. The second biggest block has been providing training for its use and up-keep. The third biggest reason for its not speading is that no income generation element is added to same. The fourth reason is the low image it carries and feel that users should be given certificate and awards and recognition for its use so that they become aware that they are contributing to environmental protection too.
We feel that lot to be done for market development a) Keep on working on user friendly technologies b) Keep on creating awarness for need of its use c) Keep on creating awareness of availibility of various solutions/ technolgies d) Make them affordabale by subsidising and or with micro-financing e) Provide proper training for its use and up-keep f) Give self esteem to the users of their contribution and image change.
We don't feel there should be any technolgy standardisation as it will curb innovation and creativity but we feel the users should be shown various options available and let them decide which is most cost effective solution for them depending on their status and need.
We feel these has been missing and no data are available for same.
