Mission

Jinja publishing specializing in producing education and training publications for semi litterate audiences in Africa. Our educational programs are active in more than 10 African countries and deal with communications around many issues effecting comminuties, such as Malaria, TB, Adult education, early childhood development. Although we have no initiatives underway regarding indoor air polution, we have strong media partnerships with newspapers all over Africa, as well as NGO's and private organisations, which would allow us to develop and distribute effective educational materials in many languages to the targeted audience,

Primary Initiatives, Target Populations, and Scope of Work:

National campain in Kenya, Uganda, Zambia, Malawi, Nigeria and Ghana - a comic book based Malaria educational project distributed in all these countries and supported by a broad media campaign. Target audience is rural, semi rural and urban population at the lower end of the economic spectrum South Africa, Namibia, Botswana, Uganda, Ghana: A project called Little Village which addresses early childhood development but is aimed equally at parents and caregivers. Here many issues around fire safety and clean air have been distributed. The series in is the national newspapers in each country every week and with partner NGO's

Our Experience And Interest In The Four PCIA Central Focus Areas

Social/Cultural barriers to using traditional fuels and stoves:

We develop materials aided by role players within each community and ensure that we treat social issues with great care. The use of illustration based materials creates an environment where we can address the thinking behid the use of traditional fuels and stoves in a way that is not intimidating and which role plays varios scenarios


Market development for improved cooking technologies:

Through our publishing activities we are able to develop a 'marketing' process to communicate the bennefits around the use of improved cooking technologies. We can make arrangements with our partners in target countries to distribute materials communicating the above issues.


Technology standardization for cooking, heating and ventilation:

We do not have experience in this field, but again, our communication materials can be adapted to communicate issues here.


Indoor air pollution exposure and health monitoring:

We do not have experience here.

We would like to provide educational support materials to the Partnership. We are active in the Adult Basic Education field and specialize in producing materials specifically targeting semi litterate audiences.
