Ngara Jatropha Foundation is involved in the promotion of Jatropha Curcas cultivation in Ngara district, in the north west of Tanzania. The objective is to have each household plant 500 Jatropha plants. After 2 years, the seeds harvested will be pressed to provide about 300 litres of oil which will be used as fuel for lanterns and cooking stoves. There will be a long term solution to the problem of indoor air pollution and deforestation for fuel wood. In addition, green house gas emissions will also be reduced.
