Our Experience And Interest In The Four PCIA Central Focus Areas

Social/Cultural barriers to using traditional fuels and stoves:

Most island communities in Ghana are not accessible and not economical for grid electricity. The main cultural barriers are some communities have small gods and do not want any form of electricity because their gods reject to them but other projects like charcoal and firewood improvement systems are acceptable. Mode of payments that are ideal to their situations are always difficult to design.

Market development for improved cooking technologies:

There are ready markest for renewable energy projects since most of them have been developed in some communities to be seen as working examples. The only one that has not yet taken off completly is small hydropower projects and that is because it is site specific and needs social approval.

Technology standardization for cooking, heating and ventilation:

All the technologies meet the approved national and international standards.

Indoor air pollution exposure and health monitoring:

There are qualified staff and experts to monitor projects from inception to completion and during implementation periods. Local people are trained to take care of the day to day monitoring and minor repairs.

Relevant Publications or Studies

There are already 100 paged survey report covering communities in Ghana without electricity and require renewable energy systems for energy source for lighting and cooking. There will be frequent report writing and publications to create awareness and educational campaign.

Our Contribution to the Partnership

I take care of the training of local people, writing of proposals, reports and organising of seminars and workshops. Community selection, focus group intervention, planning, monitoring and evaluation.
