Our Experience And Interest In The Four PCIA Central Focus Areas

Social/Cultural barriers to using traditional fuels and stoves:

The first barrier is a lack of information on the part of the users of stoves. We address barriers through using local women as marketers who teach people they know how to repair their own Rocket and Lorena stoves as well as solar cookers. We advocate for integrated cooking for each household which is comprised of: an efficient firewood stove, a solar cooker and a hay basket(fireless cooker or warmer)for each family.

Market development for improved cooking technologies:

We are involved in rural marketing using women from the villages themselves to market the appliances in their own communities and they are paid on commission for each stove or solar cooker sold. We also encourage group cooking where women in a village meet once a month and cook together and share meals and share experiences and problems. We also encourage and sponsor home parties where new users and old users meet in one member's home to cook and make parties which results in new sales to new customers and recruit other marketers.

Technology standardization for cooking, heating and ventilation:

We are interested in high quality products and are willing to receive information on how to improve stoves and solar cookers we promote.

Indoor air pollution exposure and health monitoring:

We are very interested in indoor air pollution reduction and health monitoring. That is why we are involved in solar cooking that is 100% clean without emissions that I know of.

Our Contribution to the Partnership

Our organization can participate in the partnership through contributing ideas, articles in the bulletin and share our experience which is rural based at the grass-roots level. We can also participate in workshops and help show other organizations how to make and use solar cookers, hay baskets, Lorena stoves and WAPIs.
