Mission

Climate change is one of the burning issues of the world. Bangladesh is regarded as one of the most vulnerable countries exposed to threats caused by climate change. Under these circumstances, it is necessary to undertake mitigating and adaptive measures to cope with climate change and its impacts. SZ will however limit itself in implementing low-carbon and clean energy projects.

The mission of SZ is to implement energy and environmental projects. It may implement projects fully on its own or in cooperation with other organizations.

Our Experience And Interest In The Four PCIA Central Focus Areas

Social/Cultural barriers to using traditional fuels and stoves:

Our experience shows that the effective way to promote renewable technology is to assure long-term success and build a relationship with the user, which will bring confidence in the user's mindset. At the same time, current social science methods can be applied for determining adoption dynamics and use rates so that modifications can be made. However, low cost technology can be introduced with frequent fieldworker visits.

The social barriers in connection with the dissemination improved cooking stoves are mainly (1) behavior of the people to cook with the inefficient smoke emitting stoves, (2) people are not aware about the negative impacts of smoke inhalation and (3) people are not willing to pay for stoves that they can build on their own.

Market development for improved cooking technologies:

We undertake the following activities along with our partner organizations for the market development:
- distribution of leaflets and posters,
- videos
- musical programs in the local communities,
- advertisement in the local newspapers and TV channels.

Technology standardization for cooking, heating and ventilation:

GTZ Bangladesh has done the standardization.

Indoor air pollution exposure and health monitoring:

We have trained people to do the monitoring. We visit 30 randomly selected stoves of every partner organization, every 3 months. If we find any problems we assist our partners to solve them.

Our Contribution to the Partnership

We want to share our experiences with other PCIA Partners and at the same time gather their knowledge through discussion. We will also learn how they monitor and help partners to make the program a successful one.
