Application for 2012 PCIA Regional Study Tour -- China

The Partnership for Clean Indoor Air (PCIA) is pleased to announce the second in a series of regional study tours. The goal of this study tour series is to equip Partners to replicate successful manufacturing, distribution and marketing approaches to bring their current stove program to scale, by showcasing examples of high quality manufacturing and distribution processes in each region (LA/C, Asia and Africa). The first study tour took take place in Guatemala February 6 – 8, 2012. You can learn more about this study tour, hosted by HELPS International, at www.PCIAonline.org/Bulletin.

The second study tour is scheduled to take place in Shengzhou, China from May 21-23, 2012. These dates are tentative. If you are interested in applying for this study tour, but cannot attend because of a scheduling conflict, please email us at moderator@pciaonline.org. This opportunity is intended for large-scale stove manufacturers and sellers/distributers (i.e. organizations that manufacture and/or sell/distribute more than 20,000 stoves per year) in either commercial markets or humanitarian settings. Applications are due Wednesday, April 18, 2012.

Note: The Study Tour content and discussions will occur in English.

At the end of the study tour, participants will be able to:

  • Use test procedures and results to inform and improve stove design.
  • Identify and employ uniform and cost-saving manufacturing processes and equipment to produce quality stoves.
  • Expand effective marketing of clean and efficient stoves that meet the needs of the customer.

Selection Criteria for Study Tour – Participants must:

  • Be an active PCIA Partner (participation in PCIA Forums and events, contribution of content for the PCIA Bulletin, and having a recently updated PCIA Partner Profile).
  • Have submitted their 2011 annual results report. If you have not yet submitted your annual results report, please do so now at www.PCIAonline.org/results/2011.
  • Have demonstrated results in manufacturing and/or distributing stoves that are widely disseminated or have the potential for large scale dissemination (e.g., more than 20,000 per year).
  • Have existing fuel use results (WBT, CCT, KPT or other widely recognized testing protocol).
  • Be willing to complete an organizational action plan, submit a study tour evaluation and 3-month follow up report, and give a country network presentation or submit an article highlighting experience gained from the study tour.

Space is limited (maximum one person per organization). In addition, there is limited airfare travel support available. Selection of travel support recipients will be based on responses to the questions in this application, with preference given for those with financial need, and for those who have demonstrated strong participation in past PCIA activities and commitment to furthering the mission of the Partnership.

Travel Logistics

It is VERY likely that you will need a visa to enter China. If your application is selected for this study tour, PCIA will send you an invitation letter that you can use to obtain a visa, but you will be responsible for contacting the Chinese consulate in your home country for more information on what is required. FOLLOW UP ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

I understand that if I am selected to participate in the study tour I will need to complete an action plan for my organization and submit a 3-month follow up report that highlight actions taken and results. I also commit to giving a presentation to other organizations in my country and/or submitting an article to a professional association/network sharing the experience and knowledge gained during the study tour.
