Our Experience And Interest In The Four PCIA Central Focus Areas

Social/Cultural barriers to using traditional fuels and stoves:

As a first barrier we found high levels of semi-literate and illiterate population. Another barrier difficult to overcome has been the ancient use of the traditional three-stone cooking. We have addressed these barriers and others with a constant awareness, monitoring and evaluation of our actions.

Market development for improved cooking technologies:

Incentivize manufacturing of improved stoves in various regions, giving direct access to the population. Introducing the population to the benefits from the use of improved stoves on their health and the environment.

Technology standardization for cooking, heating and ventilation:

For the production of improved stoves we use refractory material for elbows and pottery, and iron for the chimney.

Indoor air pollution exposure and health monitoring:

The monitoring is done permanently through area development officers, district supervisors and regional coordinators.
