Sustainable Technology Adaptive Research & Implementation Center, Nepal (STARIC/N) is a professional non-governmental organization engaged in developing and promoting appropriate/rural technologies effective in meeting the basic needs of the rural mass and improving their life support systems. STARIC/N is registered with His Majesty's Government of Nepal (HMG/N) under the Society Registration Act from 2004. Under the dynamic leadership of one of the pioneers in renewable and rural energy technologies, it is actively engaged in up-grading traditional technologies and also developing new technologies to make it more diversified and versatile to meet rural needs. Our Mission is to promote and propagate environmentally sound rural appropriate technologies thereby strengthening the capability of rural poor communities to respond to their basic needs by creating better options and opportunities to improve the livelihood and upgrade the socio-economic condition of the rural population. STARIC/N activities/programs are designed to: promote and disseminate appropriate technologies to respond to basic needs of the people and create opportunities to improve the quality of life and upgrade the economic condition of the people; conduct adoptive and action-oriented research on indigenous and improved technologies; train and transfer technical information and know-how on the production, installation and management of appropriate technologies; assist in development of technical and institutional capabilities for application of science and technology for sustainable development; and; provide technical support and consulting services in the field of energy and environment conservation.

Our Experience And Interest In The Four PCIA Central Focus Areas

STARIC/N is working on devising methods for market development for the promotion of improved cooking stoves in Nepal. STARIC/N has been demonstrating, and disseminating fuel efficient improved cook stoves in the rural districts of Nepal for over a year now.
STARIC/N in association with SNV Nepal and Center for Energy Studies is helping the government body to standardize a national stove testing protocol, which is to be published by October, 2006.
STARIC/N in partnership with Engineers Without Borders have just been selected as the finalist of Development Market Place 2007 for the proposal Improving Health Condition of Rural Nepalese by reducing Indoor Air Pollution.
