Mission

To identify, fund and develop social venture opportunities that leverage philanthropic and capital market interests in generating sustainable economic, social and environmental value within developing world communities.
Focusing specifically on fuel efficient stove projects in the developing world, The Paradigm Project is developing large scale projects linking private and donor capital and mixing the efforts of NGOs with private businesses to achieve robust outcomes in health, social welfare, environmental protection and demand reduction for biomass, and economic relief in impoverished communities.

Our Experience And Interest In The Four PCIA Central Focus Areas

Social/Cultural barriers to using traditional fuels and stoves:

We approach the problem from a product development standpoint, but link it tightly to NGO partners with a great depth of experience in community mobilization and behavior change. There are often significant barriers. Our goal is not to find the "right" product, but rather to develop and bring to market a suite of locally made and imported products that allow end users a choice, and then to constantly request their feedback into product design and development in order to increase demand and build a sustainable distribution channel.

Market development for improved cooking technologies:

Extremely high on both fronts. Our corporate experience in market development and business building is very high, although mostly centered in the developed world. Our interest is chiefly in building sustainable, locally managed manufacturing and distribution channels that are not reliant on carbon revenue for their long-term success.

Technology standardization for cooking, heating and ventilation:

We have no relevant experience in this area.

Indoor air pollution exposure and health monitoring:

We are aligned with several partner organizations whose focus is community development and who are well-equipped to monitor the social outcomes from our programs. This is a key focus and deliverable of our projects as we mix foundation, donor and private equity dollars to achieve our outcomes.
