Our Experience And Interest In The Four PCIA Central Focus Areas

Social/Cultural barriers to using traditional fuels and stoves:

Social/cultural barriers is one of the main barriers in shifting to improved and cleaner fuels and technologies in Nepal. Winrock Nepal has interest in awareness raising among all stakeholders and conducting social marketing to overcome such barriers.

Market development for improved cooking technologies:

Increasing financing in clean energy is one major focus of the Clean Energy Group of Winrock International Nepal. Winrock is now working with the government and other national level household energy programs to mobilize micro-finance institutions to provide credit for rural energy technologies.

Technology standardization for cooking, heating and ventilation:

National level programs on biogas and improved cooking stoves have developed standardization for biogas and improved cooking stoves. However, there is a need to diversify and develop standards for other types of improved cooking stoves to meet the demand of peri/urban areas and Winrock Nepal hopes to contribute to this activitiy in partnership with the government and other related organizations.

Indoor air pollution exposure and health monitoring:

Monitoring of indoor air pollution levels with and without intervention is one key area where Winrock Nepal attempts to get involved in the coming years. However, focus will be given to partnering with the government, and other related organizations to maximize the use of limited resources and avoide duplication.

Our Contribution to the Partnership

Winrock International Nepal is an active member and contributed significantly to formalize the initiatives taken by Practical Action Nepal to establish Indoor Air Pollution and Health Forum - Nepal. Winrock Nepal is active in creating awareness in all sectors through presentations in different forums, meetings, awareness campaigns, etc. We would like to continue our efforts to make this important but so far neglected issue of indoor air pollution more visible. We would share our experience and skills in promoting cleaner fuels and more efficient technologies to all concerned. We give high priority to form partnerships with other like minded institutions to contribute to this sector.
